The Brahmatal winter packing list.

What to bring, what we provide, and what to leave at home. Written for first-timers packing from a Delhi apartment.

The Brahmatal Trek is one of the most popular Himalayan winter treks. Frozen lakes, deep snow, mountain sunrises — but also very cold nights and slippery trails. Packing well is the single biggest thing you can do to enjoy the trek instead of just enduring it.

Travel light, pack smart. Prioritise essentials. Choose layers over bulk. Aim for a backpack under 10–12 kg.

Packing mindset

1. Clothing

Layer, layer, layer. Cotton stays wet and freezes — avoid it entirely. Everything against your skin should be synthetic or wool.

2. Footwear

3. Accessories & equipment

4. Personal hygiene & toiletries

5. Medicines & first-aid

6. Food and hydration

Stay hydrated even in the cold. Dehydration is a big factor in altitude discomfort.

7. Documents

Photo ID is mandatory at forest checkposts and base-village registration.

8. Other must-haves

9. Pro tips for Delhi trekkers — where to shop

10. What not to pack

The rule we tell every first-timer: if you're not sure whether to bring something, look at your pack. If it's already at 12 kg, leave it. If it's at 8 kg, bring it.
